Barry Bonds beat the entire Marlins squad, including Giancarlo Stanton, in a home run derby contest at spring training.
According to MLB.com, Capps experienced discomfort in his right elbow earlier in spring training and met with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola on Monday to decide what course of action to take.
President of baseball operations Mike Hill said that said Capps has a torn ulnar collateral ligament.
Capps, 25, was expected to compete with A.J. Ramos for the team’s closer job this season.
Last season, the hard-to-hit right-hander went 1-0 with a 1.16 ERA in 30 appearances for the Marlins, striking out 58 in 31 innings.
Capps is perhaps best known for his odd delivery.
